John Hansard Gallery is delighted to present Waves and Forms, a major solo exhibition by internationally acclaimed artist Haroon Mirza

Mirza’s artworks are united by an enduring preoccupation and engagement with diverse disciplines, including physics, shamanism, artificial intelligence and astrology. As an advocate of interference, Mirza creates situations that purposefully cross wires. He devises sculptures, performances and immersive experiences that skilfully blend ancient and contemporary technologies, offering up composite installations that mix an eclectic range of materials.

This keynote exhibition highlights Mirza’s ongoing exploration of waveforms – how they are perceived, the emotional and physical responses they create and the various ways in which we relate to them. For Waves and Forms, he has filled all of our galleries with new and reconfigured artworks that test the interplay and friction between sound waves, light waves, water and electric current.

Haroon Mirza (b. 1977, London) studied BA Fine Art at Winchester School of Art (1999–2002), before MA Design Critical Practice and Theory at Goldsmiths, University of London (2006) and MA Fine Art at Chelsea College of Arts (2007). Since then he has exhibited widely across the world and was awarded the Silver Lion at the Venice Biennale in 2011.

Waves and Forms has been made possible through support from the Barker-Mill Foundation and University of Southampton’s Public Engagement with Research unit. Haroon Mirza is represented by Lisson Gallery, London.
