Space to Create! Colourful Walkway Competition #2

22 December 2018 - 22 December 2018

11:30am-4pm | JHG Active Space FREE

For two Space To Create sessions in December we will have lots of exciting and colourful materials for children to take part in our Colourful Walkway Competition, alongside other activities. The competition is for childred aged 5-11, however anyone is welcome to come and have a go at this exciting activity!

Colourful Walkway Competition

In Spring 2019 a colourful walkway will be permanently installed on Above Bar Street, stretching from outside John Hansard Gallery and NST City across the road to Guildhall Square. John Hansard Gallery, part of the University of Southampton, in partnership with Southampton City Council and GO! Southampton, are launching a ‘Colourful Walkway’ competition, inviting children of Southampton to help design the public artwork and leave a lasting impact on the city.

The walkway aims to bring a splash of colour and excitement to Southampton’s city centre and the cultural quarter, as well as providing a crossing zone for pedestrians in town. The walkway itself will be designed entirely by children aged 5-11 who take part in the Colourful Walkway Competition.  The final design will be a combination of selected winning entries, and every child who enters the competition will receive a certificate of participation and a badge.

 Space To Create

The Gallery’s Active Space is open on Saturdays*, and extra days over half terms and holidays, for visitors to take part in free, fun, creative activity which responds to our exhibitions. The drop-in workshops will be planned and led by different artists, and activities will be developed particularly for children and families, but are open to visitors of all ages.
Updates on the individual upcoming activities can be found on our website!
A guardian must accompany all children under 16 at all times.
