Welsh National Opera: Rhondda Rebel

17 November 2018 - 18 November 2018

Welsh National Opera presents an immersive digital experience 'Rhondda Rebel' at John Hansard Gallery. The event accompanies WNO’s all-female production Rhondda Rips It Up! at Theatre Royal Winchester. 'Rhondda Rebel' uses augmented reality technology to bring suffragette Margaret Haig Thomas, to life by blending augmented reality with performance and music to create a new stimulating experience.

This breathtaking performance was premiered at Sessions House in Usk and this innovative installation is touring to locations across Wales and England. Sessions House is located next to the prison where Margaret Haig Thomas was imprisoned for blowing up a Newport post box with a home-made bomb in 1913.

Sections of Elena Langer’s original score and script by Emma Jenkins are presented as part of the installation.
