ARTIST ROOMS: Gerhard Richter

12 May 2018 - 18 August 2018

John Hansard Gallery's new expanded and purpose-built gallery at Studio 144 opens with a major exhibition by Gerhard Richter.

All spaces within will be devoted to Gerhard Richter’s works drawn from the ARTIST ROOMS collection, and several aspects of the artist's practice will be represented, including painting, photography, print and tapestry. Richter is one of the world’s most significant artists of the 20th and 21st centuries: the exhibition will be a serious examination of the artist’s work, bringing it to new audiences and demonstrating his immense ongoing influence and significance to subsequent generations of artists.

The ARTIST ROOMS collection of modern and contemporary art is displayed across the UK in solo exhibitions that showcase the work of more than 40 major artists. The touring programme gives young people the chance to get involved in creative projects, discover more about art and learn new skills. Since 2009, 40 million people have visited more than 150 displays at over 75 museums and galleries.

Jointly owned by the National Galleries of Scotland and Tate, ARTIST ROOMS was established through The d’Offay Donation in 2008, with the assistance of the National Heritage Memorial Fund, Art Fund, and the Scottish and British Governments. The ARTIST ROOMS touring programme is delivered by the National Galleries of Scotland and Tate in a partnership with Ferens Art Gallery until 2019, supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England, by Art Fund and by the National Lottery through Creative Scotland.
