Poetry@JHG: Anthology

28 September 2017

We are excited to annouce our new Poetry@JHG anthology publication, a collection of poems from writers who have contributed to our poetry events hosted at the Gallery over the past four years.

Poetry@JHG was first conceived in 2013 as a cross-artform approach to deeper audience engagement with the Gallery's exhibition programme. What transpired from this series is telling; that our response to art is a personal voyage of discovery, sometimes melancholic, sometimes humorous, and often autobiographical. All of the poets featured in this publication offer further insight into these journeys through contemporary art, as well as their own written practice.

John Hansard Gallery has so far invested in a total of six Poetry@JHG events, with a range of writers at different stages in their profession submitting and presenting work. University of Southampton English Department academics Professor Nicky Marsh, Dr Will May, Dr Sunil Manghani and Dr Sarah Hayden have all contributed to further engagement with the exhibitions by agreeing to be guest speskers at Poetry@JHG events, as well as providing insights into the exhibition themes relating to or directly influencing their own academic research.

The anthology is a recognition of these wonderfully talented poets, creative writers, spoken word artists, including Dave Hubble, JPF Goodman, Professor Philip Hoare, Rob Casey, Mark Rutter, Professor Nicky Marsh, Angela Chicken, Stewart Taylor, Dr Will May, Syd Meats, Steve Scholey, Dr Sunil Manghani, Andreea Stan, Dr Sarah Hayden, Carrie Carrie, and Valzorra.

Designed by graphic designer Ollie John, the publication is a 52 page, A5 full-colour book with original illustrations throughout, alongside the poems themselves.

The publication is free. If you wish to receive a copy, please email info@hansardgallery.org.uk with your name and postal address and we will get one in the post to you.
